Itzal takes the role of Link in our game play, meaning he wields the controller. He enjoys long walks, tall drinks (and short drinks, okay really all drinks), and rainy Sundays. If Itzal were a tree, he would fall on whoever came up with that inane question in the first place.
Itzal likes to tell people his grandfather was the last military governor of the Canary Islands (because who can check that?) and he keeps his liquor in a drinks cabinet he inherited from his real grandparents, who were itinerant laborers and sharecroppers. He’s now concerned this bio is entirely too much about drinking.
The first gaming platform Itzal ever played was Sega Genesis; he blames his son, who was five at the time and thought that blue raccoon creature was hilarious.
He was introduced to Legend of Zelda in 1993 and still dreams to the sound of fairy music. If he carried a sword (oh, how he wishes he carried a sword!), Itzal would swipe at tall grass with abandon. He enjoys a good board game now and then, particularly with family.
Itzal is a grandfather, dog owner, and avid Hallmark Channel watcher. His free time, when not spent being yelled at by Demelza while traipsing around Hyrule, is spent learning about craft cocktails, and now we’re back to drinking. Go figure.
Demelza plays the role of Zelda, meaning she regularly nags Itzal to remember things he’s clearly forgotten (see left for clues as to why); provides helpful instruction (also known as shouting); and disappears inexplicably for long periods of time. Demelza is tasked with researching the road ahead and cooking Link’s meals.
Like our princess Zelda, Demelza was born in a faraway country a very long time ago. She declines to say precisely how long, but acknowledges she purchased the Nintendo NES system when it was new, so draw your own conclusions.
She enjoys puttering in the kitchen (where, just like Link when Demelza’s at the controls, she has been known to fall in the fire), young adult dystopian fiction, and watching old Hollywood musicals. She may well hold the world record for most views of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
If Demelza were a mark of punctuation, she would be a parenthesis, as she uses parentheses almost as much as Itzal drinks. (Itzal claims she would be an exclamation point, but he’s clearly in the wrong here.)
Now retired, Demelza lives with her dog, a rescue, and her dog’s father, also a rescue. Demelza’s spouse is tolerant of her Nintendo habit but less forgiving of Seven Brides. (Annoyingly, he often sides with Itzal on the subject of Demelza’s shouting.)
