Tears of the Kingdom Cocktails

At long last, we’re crying into our Tears of the Kingdom cups! After a very long wait, the sequel to Breath of the Wild made its debut on May 12, 2023. This time, we’re traversing the sky, the surface, and even below. Join us (provided you’re of legal drinking age) as we flail, laugh, and toast our way through Hyrule. As always, please remember to drink and play responsibly. (For our other Zelda-based cocktail pairings, click here.)

Not-Quite Dead Last Cocktail
For once, we were not Not-Quite Dead Last in the Zeldaverse.

1/4 ounce simple syrup
1 ounce rum
1/2 ounce Aperol
1/2 ounce peach liqueur
3/4 ounce lime juice

In a container full of ice, combine rum, Aperol, peach liqueur, lime juice, and simple syrup (try the classic gum syrup by Liber and Company, to whom we credit our riff on this drink). Shake vigorously to chill. Strain into the glass of your choice and toss in a few cubes of ice. (Better still, add the ice first, then strain, lest you spill your cocktail before its time.)

Muddled Berry Mojito
One of the enemies we defeated before deserving our cocktail!

1/3 cup fresh blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries
1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
1/2 – 3/4 ounce simple syrup
2 ounces white rum
4 ounces club soda
4-6 fresh mint leaves

Muddle fresh berries, lime juice, and simple syrup. Add to a shaker full of ice with rum. Shake vigorously to chill, then strain muddled mixture into a collins glass full of new ice. Add additional, new berries and fresh mint; then top with club soda. We prefer ours on the tart side, but you may wish to adjust the simple syrup. And to keep the focus on the berries and maintain a bright color, we add the mint leaves in after. You’ll still enjoy a light minty taste, but the berries shine through.

1 ½ ounce gin
1 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
¾ – 1 ounce strawberry simple syrup (try Liber’s, unless inspired to make your own)
3 ounces, or to taste, Champagne, prosecco, or other sparkling wine
Lemon twist and strawberry (sweet and sour, like romance!)

Strawberries and sparkling wine…what’s not to love?

Combine gin, juice, and strawberry syrup in a container full of ice.  Shake vigorously to chill and combine.

Strain into a flute and top with sparkling wine.

Garnish with a strawberry and lemon twist.

Note: There are many versions of a regular French 75, with different ratios of lemon to syrup, gin to sparkling wine. Similarly, some recipes require equal parts juice to syrup; others are lighter on the sweet. The amount of sparkling wine varies from this version to that.

In our strawberry version, we skewed slightly to the gin and less to the syrup, and we filled the glass with bubbles until our cup threatened to runneth over. Adjust as you prefer!

The Queen’s Dubonnet & Gin Cocktail
  • 2 oz Dubonnet Rouge
  • 1 oz London Dry Gin
  • Lemon slice or wheel
  • Two ice cubes

Pour the Dubonnet and gin into a small wine glass . Add the ice and lemon. Stir and enjoy while being codgerly yet waving regally with your non-dominant (drinking) hand.
